History of Sea Life London Aquarium

The Sea Life London Aquarium opened in March 1997 in London County Hall.

It has been owned by Merlin Entertainments since 2008 and was completely renovated in 2009.

More than two million liters of water are needed to fill the 65 aquariums of the Sea Life London aquarium. The largest pool of the aquarium extends over 3 floors and contains one million liters of water where 12 species of sharks evolve: tiger sharks, zebra sharks, guitar sharks or even sharks with black tips.

The animals at Sea Life London aquarium are divided into 14 zones - on 3 floors:

  • Shark Walk, Shipwreck and Shark Reef Encounter: the zones sharks - take a peek at some of the ocean's most majestic creatures as they swim just inches below your feet!
  • Ray Lagoon: enter the kingdom of rays.
  • Atlantic Coasts: Discover the mysterious creatures that inhabit the coasts of the Atlantic Ocean.
  • Rockpool Explorer: Learn more about the microorganisms that inhabit the seabed.
  • Open Oceans: See the skeleton of a huge whale as well as hundreds of species of tropical fish.
  • Ocean Tunnel: the main attraction of the aquarium - an underwater tunnel which allows you to walk "under" the sea - in the company of turtles of the sea!
  • Coral Kingdom: Admire a small coral reef - you might come across its famous anemonefish!
  • Seahorse Kingdom: Discover the kingdom of seahorses.
  • Rainforest Adventure: meet the fish, amphibians and reptiles of the Amazon rainforest.
  • Polar Adventure: enter the Antarctic zone to discover penguins!

If you are present at the right time you can attend meals of many species:

  • 11:00 a.m. (daily): octopuses in the Atlantic Coasts area.
  • 11:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. (daily): stingrays in the Ray Lagoon area.
  • 12:00 p.m. (daily except Wednesday): penguins in the Penguin Point area.
  • 12:30 p.m. (Monday, Tuesday and Friday): fish and reptiles of the rainforest in the Rainforests of the World area.
  • 2:30 p.m. (Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday): sharks in the Shipwreck area.
  • 3:30 p.m. (daily): tropical fish in the Coral Kingdom area.
  • 4:00 p.m. (daily): seahorses in the Seahorse Kingdom area.
  • 4:30 p.m. (daily): sea turtles in the Rainforests of the World area.

Sea Life London Aquarium is open all year round:

  • Monday to Wednesday, and Fridays: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Thursdays: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Saturdays and Sundays: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Sea Life London Aquarium is not included in the London Pass.

The last admissions take place 1 hour before closing.
