Located in downtown Dubai, United Arab Emirates, the Burj Khalifa (Tower of Khalifa - formerly known as Burj Dubai, Dubai Tower) is, since May 2008, the tallest skyscraper in the world.

Its final height, reached on January 17, 2009, is 828 meters.

Its inauguration and partial opening took place on January 4, 2010, it has since become a worldwide icon.

The Burj Khalifa also holds the world records for longest elevator ride and highest restaurant in the world.

History of the Burj Khalifa

Construction of the Burj Khalifa began on September 21, 2004, and was completed on January 4, 2010, more than a year later than planned.

More than 12,000 people from 30 countries participated in its construction.

The architecture of the building is inspired by the flower of Hymenocallis and consists of three main sections arranged around a central tower.

The exterior facade is covered with 26,000 hand-cut glass panels: it takes three months to clean the whole building!
