Description

The British Museum is a museum of history and human culture, located in London. Its collections, made up of more than seven million objects, are among the most important in the world and come from all continents. They illustrate human history from its beginnings to today.

The museum was founded in 1753 and opened to the public in 1759. The British Museum has six million visitors a year and is claimed to be Britain's busiest tourist site.

As in most museums and art galleries in the UK, admission is free, with the exception of certain temporary exhibitions; donations are encouraged.
