Join us for an very special evening with Klaus Flugge Prize chair of judges Julia Eccleshare who will discuss the art of picture book illustration with multi-award-winning illustrator and Klaus Flugge Prize judge Emily Gravett.
The evening will also see the announcement of the shortlist for the 2022 Klaus Flugge Prize.
Established in 2016, the Klaus Flugge Prize is awarded to the most promising and exciting newcomer to children’s book illustration. It honours publisher Klaus Flugge, founder of children’s publisher Andersen Press and a supremely influential figure in picture books. Past winners of the prize include Flavia Z. Drago, Eva Eland, Jessica Love and Kate Milner.
Emily Gravett's career as a successful illustrator began before she even finished studying illustration at Brighton School of Art. During her second year as a student, she entered one of her projects for the Macmillan Prize for Children's Illustration, earned a 'Highly Commended' and then, the following year, won the prize by entering two books that the judges ranked in first and second place. The winning title, Wolves, was published by Macmillan Children's Books and went on to win the Kate Greenaway Medal, the Boston Globe Horn Book Honor Award for Illustration and was also a runner up for the Smarties Prize. Three years later, Little Mouse’s Big Book of Fears won her the Kate Greenaway Medal for a second time. She is on this year’s Kate Greenaway Medal shortlist too, with Too Much Stuff.
