Blurring boundaries and borders, inspired by the music and poetry of Britain
World music collective Kabantu joins forces with innovative Welsh chamber orchestra Sinfonia Cymru to blur the boundaries between genres, taking inspiration from the music and poetry of the British Isles. Playing brand new
music, written and devised by the players from both ensembles, Close to Folk is a stunning celebration of people and culture.
The two ensembles forge in this new collaboration to unravel new marriages of music from around the globe, celebrating the space where different cultures meet. This is autonomous music, bridging orchestral and traditional folk music with an open book of genres and countries. An egalitarian, collaborative and creative process, bypassing the conductor and composer to give the music back to the musicians, this new sound world defies genre and embraces sheer joy in music from all over the globe.
Reinventing Global Sounds, Throwing Away the Rulebook, Kabantu is a quintet from Manchester who unravel new marriages of music from around the globe to celebrate the space where different cultures collaborate.
