'Why has it taken more than half a century for this wonderful flight of humour to be rediscovered?'The Guardian

Forgotten Fiction is a monthly book club where we travel back in time to rediscover 'lost' literary gems of the 20th Century. Hosted by Alex Peake-Tomkinson, each session is curated around a specific theme and features carefully chosen books to provide the basis for our discussion, which is always light-hearted, informal and fun.

June's club, themed 'Second Chances', will be discussing Winifred Watson's delightful Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day, which follow a governess sent by an employment agency to the wrong address, where she encounters a glamorous night-club singer, Miss LaFosse.

'The sheer fun, the light-heartedness' in this wonderful 1938 book 'feels closer to a Fred Astaire film than anything else', comments Henrietta Twycross-Martin - who found Miss Pettigrew for Persephone Books - in the book's preface.

Numbers strictly limited, please book promptly to avoid disappointment. Tickets are £8/£6 (students) and include a gin cocktail
