We are delighted to welcome author Sylvia Topp and Masha Karp from the Orwell Society to Waterstones Islington to celebrate the launch of Eileen - The Making of George Orwell.
Eileen - The Making of George Orwell is the never-before-told story of George Orwell's first wife, Eileen, a woman who shaped, supported, and even saved the life of one of the twentieth century's greatest writers.
Sylvia Topp is the author of numerous essays, including 'Hidden Husbands' and 'You Can't Get to Barnhill from Here'. She has worked in publishing since college, starting as a copy editor on medical journals, then moving to freelance editing at major literary publishing houses. Eileen is her first book. She lives in Kingston, Ontario.
Masha is a London-based freelance journalist with a special interest in relations between Russia and the West. She is a translator of Animal Farm into Russian (first published in 2001) and the author of the award winning first Russian biography of Orwell.
Join us on the evening of March 25th to delve into the life of Eileen O'Shaugnessy, the woman who inspired 1984. Tickets are £6 or £4 for Waterstones Plus members. Book online as places are limited.
