Our Online Young Adult Meet Up on the 29 October 2020 will be a Halloween, Harry Potter Special

If you're aged 16-30 and living with, or beyond, a brain tumour diagnosis, join us for our Online Meet Up on Thursday 29 October from 18:00 - 19:30. This meet up will be a Halloween special where we will be virtually exploring Edinburgh and will discover the magical locations that inspired the characters and the scenes in Harry Potter. We will virtually visit the places where JK Rowling wrote the books, take part in a sorting ceremony and even learn a spell or two along the way. Please don't worry if you are not a Harry Potter fan, there will still be plenty to entertain you and there will be time at the end to enjoy a chat with the group.

Please book your place below – you’ll need a link and a password to join which will be emailed to you the day of the event, and don't forget your wand!*

What should I expect?

Whether you’ve been to one of our face to face meets ups before or whether you’re a complete newbie, everyone is welcome! We're an informal and friendly bunch (promise) and our online meet ups are a safe space to get to know new people with similar experiences and stay connected during what for many people is a really isolating time.

We’ll be taken on the Harry Potter Trail of Edinburgh to see the sights and inspiration behind the wonderful world of Harry Potter, including a house point competition, sorting ceremony and spell casting session. The tour, whilst virtual, is going to be fully interactive so you will have a chance to get involved if you want to. Once the tour has finished if you want to stay on and chat, there’s optional time at the end for this but no pressure either - so you can do what’s right for you.

Where are we meeting?

As face to face meet ups are no longer possible due to the current circumstances and we don’t know when we’ll be able to hold these again, we are using this opportunity to try something new and are going online! We’ll be meeting online using Zoom a video meeting platform, don’t worry if you’ve never used Zoom before, we’ll send you full, easy to follow instructions to get you started and it’s completely free!

Please don’t worry about…Not wanting to be on video, you can connect using just audio so no one can see you but you can still take part.

You’ve never used Zoom before – we’ll send you all the instructions you need and if you get stuck we’ll be on hand to help, we can even do a test Zoom chat before the event if you would find it helpful!

“I won’t be very good at…” – This is a relaxed space of supportive peers where it’s not the winning but the taking part (and having fun) that counts.

Not making friends/anxiety – we guarantee you will. Everyone is in a similar boat and understands your situation so you’re sure to make friends. Plus, our friendly team are there to help too.

I’m not very confident in new situations – don’t worry, you can sit back and watch or listen, if you would prefer or dip in and out depending on what feels right for you.

Please note: All attendees must be aged 16 and above.

If you have any questions, or would like to know more please contact the Young Adults Team on or by calling 0808 800 0004

The Brain Tumour Charity is a UK based charity. We welcome young adults outside of the UK joining our online meet ups, however, it is important to note unfortunately we do not have the facilities to translate conversations for any non-English speakers.

*wands are not required but please do feel free to bring them if you have them or something wand shaped would be useful. Please also feel free or to wear your favourite Harry Potter getup.
