During the Iron Age, the Talaiotic people began to build stone tombs, navetas, for their burial rites. The Naveta d'Es Tudons is the largest and best preserved of those. * Made up of two chambers – the lower chamber used for the bones of the dead after the flesh had been removed, and the upper for the drying of recently placed corpses – the Naveta d'Es Tudons has stood the test of time and remains remarkably well preserved despite facing the elements outside and having no mortar to hold the stones in place. * The Naveta d'Es Tudons is believed to have been used between 1400 and 900 BC and it offers a unique glimpse into what life was like for the island societies of Menorca and Mallorca during the Iron Age.
