House of the Limbourg Brothers: Guided Tour

Medieval art is deeply intertwined with religious imagery, but the Limbourg brothers added more depth than most. Not only did they add perspective – something new for its time – but they showed lifelike people and daily goings-on in their paintings. While the reality of an era filled with plague, highway robberies, and reeking cities is not shown, the Limbourg brothers depicted an idealized version of medieval life with moments of humanity flecked throughout their work.
