The Hegemermar Fertels

The Palingaak Korneliske Ykes II is more than a ship; it's a beautiful piece of history that has seen centuries of Frisian eel trade from the Baltic Sea all the way to London. This year the ship will make a beautiful commemorative voyage to the Baltic Sea in June 2022. To mark the occasion, a special Friesian theatrical walk is being arranged through Heeg, where five stories from the history of Heeg will be acted out before your eyes. At five locations around the Hegemermar, five historical events will be brought to life, including the sinking of the steamship Willem III on the Fluessen during a heavy southwestern storm, The arrival of the 'new island' in the Hegemermar, and what this means for Heeg. And, of course, the first voyage of Korneliske Ykes to the Baltic Sea in 1901. Don't miss this unique Friesian occasion!
