Sudare Making Experience

You'll see Sudare all over Japan. This traditional material is used to make everything from doors and window blinds to sushi mats. Sudare is made in very few places in Japan these days, and with this special tour, you'll learn the traditional techniques at one of the last remaining workshops using the old ways. With expert craftspeople leading the tour, you'll observe how colored yarns are woven and how the yarns combine with the bamboo strands to form the desired shape. After the demonstration, you can choose the color of the weaving yarn and the bamboo strands, and then start making your own coasters!
