Marmore Falls

The magnificent beauty of the Marmore Falls would have looked nothing like it does now in the early days of 271 BC; in fact it wouldn't have even existed! The falls were an ancient feat of engineering by the Romans, and their work transformed a land that was swampy and flooded by the River Velino into what we see today. Now you'll walk through a park where the hills are covered with maples and beeches, and willows cling to limestone slopes. Aquatic fauna abounds, adding a mystical look to the rapidly flowing falls. Make sure to check the time of your visit, the falls are turned on manually – and when they aren't on, water is diverted to create hydroelectricity.
