MAXXI - National Museum of 21st Century Art

MAXXI goes beyond the bounds of a typical art museum. In its own words, the space serves as a campus for culture. Inside, architecture is as prominent as art, and the design of the building testifies to that. The collection covers art from the 20th century to contemporary pieces, with names like Alighiero Boetti, Francesco Clemente, and Mario Merz all on display. The works of important Italian and foreign artists of the 20th century's last four decades have been purchased in order to show a journey between the latest contemporary works and the past works that helped shape them.
