More info

After the construction of the Berlin Wall, many GDR citizens tried to escape to the western part of the city. With the “Moscow-Paris-Express” – the train to freedom – one of the most spectacular and dangerous GDR escape stories begins in January 1964. * In January 1964, Karl-Heinz Richter from East Berlin planned to flee the GDR together with seven schoolmates. Over a period of three weeks in succession, the students entered the track bed behind the Friedrichstraße station and jumped out of a hiding place on a approaching night train to get from East to West Berlin. * However, Karl-Heinz Richter stumbled and failed to reach the train. His escape failed and he stayed behind. Together with Karl-Heinz Richter-inspired guide, you'll return to the places of his past and hear exciting stories about everyday life in the GDR, and his escape attempt. You will also learn more about the conditions of detention in the Berlin Stasi prison and the notorious Stasi interrogation methods.
